Walking into Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den the stage is bare and the lights are on, which is always a good start to a show especially an Improvisational one. Improv Allstars Up Late features the UK’s top improvisational men and women. The night consisted of Caitlin Campbell, Daniel Nils Roberts, Tom Skelton and Vicky Hawley as they let the audience decide – for the most part – what will be happening but not what comes out and what does come out may not exactly be PC as the title of the show suggests we’re up late!
Obviously the show will change from night to night and the cast will change as well so giving you some kind of clue as to what is going on is futile but it’s the people in the show and the audience members who attend that make the show what it is – and what it is, is most certainly good mannered albeit dirty minded fun regardless of whether you’re giving out suggestions or getting up on stage and being made apart of the show, but don’t get off the stage because it really mucks it up. Campbell got the show going with laughs and witty humour, Hawley was exceptional with her one liners and impressive rap skills, Roberts pick up lines were cringe worthy making the poor 18 year old chosen to be the judge look like she was wanting to run for her life and Skelton is hilarious and seemingly unable to not be likeable no matter how loud or creepy he is acting.
If you’ve never seen any kind of improv before this is definitely a good starting ground and even if you have seen plenty it will not disappoint you with this group of hilarious individuals. Come along make some noise, stir the pot and give your best or worst suggestions for what to have them do.
