FRINGEWORLD 2019: Kevin Quantum: Vanishing Point | 5 Stars

Review | Laura Money

Life is all about little vanishes – from time idled away on smartphones to planes going missing in the Bermuda Triangle – and Kevin Quantum is here to explore them all. Vanishing Point is a culmination of Quantum’s knowledge of physics (he has a PhD after all) combined with his love of all things magic! The stage is full of interesting items – a veritable cabinet of curiosities which Quantum uses as his playground.

The magic starts straight away – well the science does. Quantum has certain obsessions – incidentally quite a few them align with my own! – and loves to break down how the tricks work. He opens with a flourish and distracts the audience with his affable nature – things go missing as he mesmerises you with his beautiful device that needs to be seen to be believed. I’m not going to describe all of the tricks – you’ll have to go and see it yourself but believe me when I say, Quantum is a huge talent.

Quantum is not a showy magician – he is more likely to charm you with his conversation than flashes and sparks. He is laconic and utterly compelling. There is audience participation, there are card tricks and sleight of hand, and mentalism. Quantum is so likeable and friendly, you feel a true relationship with him – he executes his tricks quickly and with hilarious flare. There are creepy coincidences, and the strange nature of the Bermuda Triangle, literal vanishes, optical illusions, and a true show stopper at the end.

This is one hour of your life you won’t want to vanish! Kevin Quantum: Vanishing Point is the magic show for people who want a little more than just a rabbit out of a hat. He is a phenomenal physicist and a marvellous magician, providing a show like no other. In fact, the guy literally risks his life for the crowd – but never fear, his faith in science will get him through! Quantum is at the top of his game and should be on the top of your list for FRINGEWORLD 2019.
