A few years ago, Rhythmos Choir was just a dozen students performing to fewer than 100 people in their home hall at Curtin University. Flash forward to present day, and they’ve more than doubled in size to 30 members, they are performing in FRINGEWORLD 2018, and they’ve even been head hunted for a performance in New York’s Carnegie Hall!
Their show is called A Cappella, named for this style of performance – which leaves instruments out, using complex harmony to create a veritable orchestra of vocal delight. Toe-tapping, heart-warming and soulful, A Cappella brings vibrant life to classics like Queen’s ‘Somebody to Love’.
The group’s amazing rise speaks to the quality and heart present in every A Cappella performance they give. A fantastic musical experience featuring pure voice is always a treat – especially when it comes from the passionate young singers of Rhythmos Choir. This show is well recommended to all ages, and all walks of life. The Fringe-Ometer is low – no burlesque shenanigans or risqué content here – so it’s especially perfect for families.
Perhaps what makes A Cappella and the Rhythmos Choir behind it especially appealing is the sense of passion and togetherness in every bar they sing. The Rhythmos choir was started several years ago in order to bring students and staff at Curtin University closer together. Their common bond through music, and the power music has to connect people, radiates from the singers and their performance.
Catch A Cappella or another performance by the Rhythmos Choir while you can – they’ll be headed off to New York to play at the 50th anniversary of long-running musical group The King’s Singers before long!
