Review | Link Harris
An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman presented by Comedy Lounge returns from sell out shows and gives us a trio of international comedy acts from – you guessed it – England, Ireland and Scotland. It’s a rotating line-up of comedians from across the pond, so it’s different every time you go. The night we went was phenomenal!
First up to the mic was none other than the brilliant Larry Dean from Scotland. Starting off he admits he has creepy eyes but if he talks to you – the audience – he actually likes you! Most of his excellent stand up revolved around taking the mickey out of people from around his own neck of the woods so Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland etc. then comparing them to Australia and how he loves all of the different types of people that live here. One particularly brilliant part of his stand up involved a tickling fetish, how afterwards he thought he had magic hands as well as a tram ride, we can’t say much more about it without ruining it so you’ll just have to go see his show to find out the rest. Dean’s own show Larry Dean – Fandan is running between the 13th and 18th of February.
Next up to the mic was the short in stature but funny as hell Ian Coppinger from Ireland. Paying homage to his small stature he began with lots of hilariously funny short jokes like the fact that he never casts a shadow, his other job is to stand on wedding cakes and the woman who used to stand beside him left him to dance in a jewellery box. He continued on with arguably the most irreverent jokes about deaf and blind people, airport security always asking for food which makes them sound homeless moving onto all of the weird and wacky things that happen in Australia like our noisy birds and how we tend to abbreviate everything. The pinnacle of his set was when he compared the world political leaders to kids in a creche and the games they were playing!
Last up to the mic was the hilarious Steve Harris from England. He started off telling us that he did a show for the troops in Afghanistan, the Americans on the other base found out he was there and asked if he could do a show for them too. After telling them to get nicked, they offered up ten grand – so he did it. Harris loves talking about his wife, their arguments, making fun of her and finding out that he’s in her top 10 sexual encounters list just to name a few things. Arguably the funniest part was when Harris was visiting a safari park in the UK where it’s so cold that the Lion roared and could see it’s own breath for the first time!
The line-up for An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman was exceptional especially considering paying $30 to see three different comedians for an hour long show is definitely good value for money and is bound to tickle your funny bone.
