FRINGEWORLD 2018 | TOHU | 4 stars

Presented by Sydney-based independent artists Sharon and Omer Backley-Astrachan is the enchanting half hour dance theatre performance piece titled TOHU.

Have you ever wondered just how immense the universe truly is? How vast its depths? How great it’s reach?

Have you ever thought about your place within that immensity? Where you fit in? How honestly small and insignificant you might be in the grand scheme of things?

If you haven’t already entertained these very thoughts before now, then TOHU will most certainly have you wondering just exactly what your place place in the grand scheme of things means. Exploring the thematic ideology behind our everyday existence and its perpetually chaotic processes and effects. TOHU beautifully and with simplistic elegance reflects upon our very microscopic behaviours within the macroscopic universe.

The duo’s performance is minimalist, elegant and simple. The well chosen choreography of small understated gestures, subtle movements of nuance all aid in the dreamlike fantastic quality of the performanc’es ebb and flow. The dark, unlit performance space with its barest dressing of lights is the perfect setting to have audience’s feeling just how untethered their whole existence and stability within the universe’s all encompassing grasp they truly are.

Don’t miss the chance to see this truly understated performance by two strongly talented performers. definitely ones to watch out for in the future!
