FRINGEWORLD 2018 | Completely Improvised Shakespeare | 4 stars

Review | Kieran Eaton

Eight performers and one unknown storyline is what you get when you see this Melbourne-based troupe bring laughter to the times of Shakespeare. Dressed like medieval bards – all wearing white tunics, black pamtaloons, and white long socks they welcome us with full authenticity.

Once you get to know what they are about, they swiftly get the audience warmed with some crowd interactions. Starting with easy questions of name and favourite coffee shop – to the big one…what Shakespeare styled name would you like the play to be called? Luckily an audience member suggested something very humorous. Let’s just say it revolved around going to toilet.

This talented bunch quickly set the scene with strong characters, who know how to add humour with use of of impromptu remarks. This creative play has a dramatic end, leaving the audience wanting more.

If you want a light take on Shakespeare with laughs for, go see Completely Improvised Shakespeare for a bit of FRINGEWORLD 2018 entertainment.
