Perth, if you are up for a wild night of burlesque, look no further that the delightful Tease Mania – Wild Burlesque. This show titillates and teases like no other! Presented by The Great Debacle, the show features the slick and funny Charlie D Barkle as your host with the most and a variety of burlesque acts headlined by the phenomenal powerhouse Carletta the Great.
The acts are from all over the world – England, all over Australia – Melbourne, and all over Perth – well, Yokine! There’s classic tease in the form of a pink, sugary sweet, tutu-clad (but not for long) dance by Virtue. She has the charm of an Edwardian sweetheart and the moves of a much raunchier time! There’s classy, timeless glamour complete with feathers and a cream outfit that looks like it’s come straight from a Cilla Black concert.
New local, Vespa White turns up the heat in a divine number that references the classic 60s vibe – in a tight and slightly see-through costume that wouldn’t be out of place in a Judy Garland movie – complete with giant Rose from Titanic hat, White proves that she has got the moves. It’s all about the allure – she teases the audience with a sultry ‘no?’ when asking whether each item of clothing should be sensually removed. And, who could forget that hilarious doughnut dance?
Barkle himself is a smooth operator – from singing some classic Sinatra with a puppet version of his penis, to opening the show with a jazzy rendition of Pink’s “Get The Party Started” he brings a certain absurdity to the night, keeping everything grounded in the fun atmosphere it should have. Assisting the show are the two wonderfully talented Go Go Girls, whose beehive hairdos never fall out, even after vigorous dancing – and I mean vigorous! Their rendition of “Proud Mary” is nothing short of phenomenal.
The highlight of the show comes in the form of Carletta The Great – and she certainly lives up to her name. From a transgressive dance dressed as a literal glamour-puss – massive lips and labia costume ridiculously subverting burlesque itself, to a more traditional strip clad in an extra af black and gold outfit – platinum buzz cut edgily glittering under the lights, this lady is so cool. Clever, witty, subversive and sensual, Carletta is the Beyonce of Burlesque – Queen!
So go and immerse yourself in Tease Mania – Wild Burlesque a night that takes the vibe of the 60s burlesque clubs and gives them an edgier, twenty-first century makeover.
